Beat egg yolks until thick and foamy. Beat egg whites and combine with egg yolks.
Gradually add the powdered sugar and mix lightly.
Sift flour and add egg mixture together with the anise seed.
Drop from teaspoon onto greased cookie sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart. Chill in refrigerator overnight.
Bake in 300 degree oven for about 12 minutes.

05/23/08 10:17 PM | mountain momI had a recipe for anise cookies when I lived in Tenneesee Mountains given to me by some of my neighbors. My children had moved their from Florida and was very much not ready for the change in tempatures. We all got very sick. One of the ladies
in my neighborhood was 86 years old, she told me that if I would bake these cookies and make sure my kids ate them when they first started showing signs of a cold it would kick it out quicker. Tried it, worked and they became my youngest sons favorite cookies. He loves black liquorish too! |

12/14/07 12:58 AM | SpringerleIt was fascinating to read of another Springerle baker. I am the only one left in my family who can make it "right" . I will be teaching my daughter this Christmas before the tradition is gone. |
