Place the yogurt in a strainer lined with a coffee filter. Set aside and drain for about 1 hour. This should give you about 1/2 cup drained yogurt.
Combine the yogurt, cottage cheese, garlic and basil in a food processor and blend until smooth. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir in the roasted peppers, if using.
Cover and refrigerate, allowing to sit for at least 30 minutes so flavors will blend.
