Beaujolais Granita

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle Beaujolais or other light, fruity red wine
  • 1-1/2 cups cold water
  • 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup sugar or to taste

Cooking Instructions

1. Put the wine, water, lemon juice, and sugar in a nonreactive mixing bowl and whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved. Transfer the mixture to a metal bowl and place in the freezer. As the liquid freezes, scrape it two or three times with a fork to break it up.

2. To serve, scrape again and spoon the granita into glasses that have been chilled in the freezer. Serve immediately, as the granita melts quickly.
