  • 3 squirels

Cooking Instructions

shoot squirels day before.. skin and clean, leave heads on. give to grandma grandma soak in salt water

early next morning grandma put squirels in flour and salt and pepper mix, coat well, put in skillet of bacon grease that is already hot (12" iron skillet with about half cu of bacon grease)..

drop in squirels and cook for a while, (turn as needed.. Add water and additional salt & pepper as needed. a little qarlic is ok and mabe a coulpe slices of onions)

add just enough wood to the stove to keep the heat up. Cook until the kids get up (about 2 hrs) Sevre over biscuits with grits on the side.

Recipe Notes

This what my Grandma gave me...You can subsitute squirel for rabbit or wild duck. But every morning that I stayed with her we had a good breakfast. If you want to know about the other meals contact me.

squirel breakfast

if you ever watched coal miners daughter you would know that this is no joke.and people in the hills still eat this.I guess people think their fore fathers didn't go hunting to get meat it all came from a big super market.

Hmmm....tasty!

Now THAT recipe really got my attention! Would you suggest serving them over a bed of rice or possibly on a green, grassy surface? :)
