Heat oven to 375°F. Line baking sheet(s) with foil.
Beat butter and sugar in a medium bowl with mixer on high speed until pale and fluffy. Add baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; beat until well combined. Add egg; beat until blended, then beat in molasses. On low speed, beat in flour until just blended.
Shape dough in 1-in. balls; roll in pearl sugar. Place 2 in. apart on prepared baking sheet(s).
Bake 8 to 10 minutes until cookies are light brown around edges and tops crackle. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
Note: Pearl sugar can be found in stores selling Scandinavian baking supplies, or go to an online search engine and enter “pearl sugar.”
