Thuroughly mix your fruit with the sugar and cornstarch and a splash of lemon juuice. Heap this mixture into an 8 or 9 inch diameter deep dish baking pan and dot the top with butter.
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees
Make a soft biscuit dough by combining the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening with a fork till the mixture is crumbly, then stir in the milk. Roll out your dough on a lightly floured board, then spread it over the mound of fruit. Cut air vents in the top. Seal and flute the edges. Bake your cobbler in the oven for about 35 minutes or until it is nicely browned. Serve warm with ice cream or on its lonesome
