Wash the beans and cut in several slices lengthwise, discarding stem tip. Plunge the beans in a quart (yes, a quart) of boiling salted water. Cook for 8 minutes, or just until barely tender. Remove from water, drain, and rinse with cold water immediately. This will preserve the color and stop the cooking process. This step may be done ahead.
Melt the butter in a frying pan. Stir in the garlic and lemon juice. Toss in the green beans and stir just long enough to coat and heat. Serve immediately!
