Safety of cooking in Ziploc bags

I have written the Ziploc manufactures about this method of cooking in the past. Their Ziploc storage bags are not designed for cooking.

AKA Ziploc Omelet

I have a recipe for this that uses a quart sized Ziploc which works just fine! And, there is no limit to the ingredients that you can add to this: cheeses, olives, jalepeno, cilantro, salsa, ham, bacon, sausage, onion, etc. We've done these at the American Legion and they beg for more! My recipe says cook for 13 minutes also, but sometimes we needed more time...depends on the amount of "stuff" in the Ziploc! It's also perfect for our camping trips.

Boy Scout Campouts

Many times at my son's Boy Scout Troop's Campouts we did our eggs in ziplock bags. It was fun for the scouts and made it much easier to clean up the campsite after breakfast. No pots and pans to wash.

Egg in a Bag

We make this on our family vacation. We have everyone put their names on the bag with a Magic Marker. Then we put up to 6 bags in large pan of boiling water and cook for 13 minutes exactly. Everyone just loved it. Unusual and delicious!
