1 Combine sugar, wine, allspice, cloves, pepper, and vanilla bean in a 10-inch glass ring mold. Arrange figs evenly around mold.
2 Cover tightly with microwave plastic wrap. Cook at 100% for 5 minutes. 3 Remove from oven. Serve figs warm with their poaching liquid.
To serve 1. Substitute 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract for vanilla bean, and divide all other ingredient quantities by 4; combine all ingredients in a 2-cup ramekin, cover, and cook for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
To serve 3. Halve all ingredients except vanilla bean; arrange figs in an 8-inch glass ring mold, cover and cook for 3 minutes.
