CALL THE KIDS
Using a plastic knife, help your child cut the cheese slices into 1/3-ounce servings (in the case of the mozzarella, this means cutting each long, 1-ounce slice into three smaller squares). If you are using the processed cheese slices (they are about 1 oz each), then cut these into three equal pieces.
Help your child lay one slice of ham on a cutting board or large plate. Have him or her place one serving of cheese on top of the ham slice. Show your child how to roll the ham and cheese together, starting from the bottom and rolling toward the top to make a log shape. Repeat with the other 11 slices of ham and cheese. Spear with a colorful toothpick or fancy cocktail plastic toothpick if desired and age is appropriate. Otherwise, place each roll-up in a Ziploc bag until needed, or wrap each lunch serving in foil or a sandwich bag.
