Heat oven to 400°F. Have a cookie sheet ready.
Unfold puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and brush lightly with egg. Spread evenly with cheese spread and sprinkle with parsley and basil. Fold 2 sides about 11⁄2 inches toward the middle. Repeat folds. Fold in half lengthwise. Press gently to compress.
Cut crosswise in 1⁄2-inch-thick slices. Place slices cut side down on ungreased cookie sheet. Lightly brush tops with egg.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm or at room temperature.
SPICY PARMESAN VARIATION
Thaw 1 sheet puff pastry and heat oven as directed. In Step 2 substitute the following for the cheese spread and herbs: In a small bowl, mix 1⁄2 cup grated Parmesan cheese and 1⁄4 teaspoon each ground red pepper (cayenne), paprika and salt until blended. Proceed as directed.
