-If you plan to the mixture right away rather than letting it set up in the fridge, you should start to boil some water. Otherwise, if you plan to let the better set, skip the water boiling. -In one bowl, stir together brown sugar and the spices so the spices are evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
In another bowl, beat together softened butter and vanilla extract until well blended. Then add the sugar and spice mixture and beat until well blended.
It's best to let the batter set in the fridge to allow the spices to mingle. If you do let it set, just take it out of the fridge two hours before so it can soften.
To make the drink: Pre-heat a coffee cup by pouring hot water into it and letting it sit. Boil some water for the drink. Dump the water that has been heating your cup and add 2 heaping TBSPs of batter to the cup, the dark rum, and then the hot water. Be careful not to add the water if it's still boiling as it may foam up and run over the glass. Do the ratio to your taste. Personally, I like 2 oz rum, 8 oz hot water, and 2 heaping tablespoons of batter. If you want to be creative, add some whipped cream on top and some colored sugar for decor.
If you really like a clove flavor, add the allspice. Personally, I find it over-powering. You can as much as 1/2 tsp in this recipe if you REALLY like that clove flavor. Personally, I like it better with barely a pinch for the whole recipe. I think
