Preheat oven to 350.
Brown ground beef/turkey and bacon bits together and drain.
Cook macaroni per package directions and set aside.
Combine milk, 3 tablespoons melted butter, flour, and eggs in a separate mixing bowl until smooth and blended.
Spread meat in bottom of a buttered 13x9 casserole dish.
Layer 1/2 cooked macaroni on top of the meat.
Sprinkle with 2 cups shredded cheese and diced tomatoes and mushrooms.
Top with remaining macaroni.
Pour milk-egg mixture over top.
Toss breadcrumbs with remaing 1 tablespoon melted butter and sprinkle on top of mac and cheese.
Bake at 350 for 45-50 minutes uncovered.
Remove, add remaining cheese on top and bake an additional 10-15 minutes
This receipe was created from my need of a filling meal to save money on meals while working. Reheats great! Combines the best things about homemade mac & cheese and a bacon cheeseburger.

YummThis is a very good casserole. I had to question the flour amount, because there was no amount for it, I used 3 heaping tablespoons, the amounts for the tomatose and mushrooms weren't given either, which I used a 24 oz. can of diced tomatoes and a 4oz. can of mushrooms. I didn't have any bacon bits on hand so I cooked up 8 slices of bacon. Turned out very well. The only thing I will change next time will be to put all the noodles over the meat mixture instead of layering it, reason I ended up having a few hard noodles. Over all this is a keeper and very delicious. Also I will add more tomatoes. |

Recipe has problemsIn the directions is says when to add FLOUR..WHERE is the flour in the recipe and HOW MUCH?? Do you DRAIN the tomatoes?? Good grief. So I made my own bacon which had to be better than commercial bacon bits. I added 3 T of flour and DID drain them but made it 2 cans of italian seasoned ones which were delicious. The recipe didn't have enough tomatoes and those were what made the dish. My youngest was picking them out just to eat them and she normally doesn't like tomatoes. Otherwise, after my improvisations it was a tasty recipe. |
