Heat outdoor grill or stovetop grill pan.
Mix pepper spread and mayonnaise in a small bowl.
Gently mix beef, salt and pepper in a bowl. Form into four 3/4-in.-thick patties. Flatten centers slightly. Coat onions with nonstick spray.
Grill burgers and onions 5 minutes per side or until burgers are done and onions slightly charred. Remove to a platter. Grill bread, cut side down, until lightly toasted.
Top bottoms of bread with salad, then burgers, dollops of pepper-mayonnaise mixture and onion. Cover with bread tops.
To check that the burgers are safely cooked to at least 160 degrees, insert an instant-read meat thermometer through the side into the center.
