Cooking Instructions

I have never seen anyone make hot chocolate the way my Mom made it... nor have I ever tasted any that was quite this rich and delicious!

A single serving of this easy recipe is made right in your mug! No more trouble than using a pre-packaged mix but ever so much better.

Ingredients are approximate and can be adjusted to your own taste. If this is too strong for you, use teaspoons instead of tablespoons for the cocoa and sugar. Vanilla can be left out entirely or you can add a whole teaspoon! Half & Half or whipping (heavy) cream is a delicious substitute for canned milk.

Experiment! Add a little coffee, use different extracts, stir with a cinnamon stick or candy cane. Use your imagination.

ENJOY!!

DIRECTIONS:

Thoroughly mix cocoa and sugar in your mug.

Add approximately 2/3 cup boiling water and stir until cocoa/sugar mixture is dissolved.

Stir in vanilla extract and evaporated milk.

OPTIONAL: Top if desired with your choice of whipped cream (real homemade, canned or Cool Whip), marshmallows or marshmallow cream. If using regular or mini marshmallows add them before adding the evaporated milk so they will melt better. Colored sugars, cinnamon/sugar, chocolate sprinkles, etc. are pretty on top and add a festive look.

If too hot, cool with a little milk or water. If not hot enough, microwave for a few seconds.

Serve with cheese toast for a yummy winter breakfast!

NOTE: You can also make larger quantities of this recipe in a pan on the stove. Just keep the 1:3 ratio of cocoa/sugar.

Recipe Notes

You will find a little cocoa residue in the bottom of your cup when you're done. If this bothers you, you can avoid it by making it in a small saucepan instead and boiling the cocoa, sugar and water for a couple of minutes.
