1. Preheat the oven to 475 degrees F. Crush the spices as described in the toasting instructions, add the olive oil and return the skillet to the heat. Stir over low-medium heat and when the oil is warm and fragrant, add the onion, garlic and salt and pepper. Add the yams and toss them until they are thoroughly coated with the oil and seasonings.
2. Coat a baking sheet lightly with a thin film of vegetable spray. Turn the yams onto the sheet and bake 30 minutes or until the yams are crisp and golden. Turn them once or twice so they will cook evenly. Serve with the Spiced Yogurt while the yams are hot and fragrant.
