Beat eggs well, and gradually add powdered sugar, lemon juice and grated rind.
Sift flour and add salt, soda and spices. Sift again and add to egg and sugar mixture. Beat to form smooth, medium-soft dough.
Chill in refrigerator for several hours. Roll on floured board, into long, finger-shaped sticks. Cut into small, marble sized pieces and bake on greased baking sheets in 425 degree oven until they turn a light, golden brown.

12/01/07 10:06 PM | Hard as rocks but great!This is almost the same recipe as my grandmother used to make. I've been eating them now for 64 years but we add finely cut up citron to them. Mom used to say grandma kept a few from year to year to compare since there isn't any shotening in them. |
