
Heat the butter in a 4-quart saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook until the onion is tender-crisp.
Add the broth, brown sugar, thyme, black pepper and pumpkin and heat the mixture to a boil. Cover and reduce the heat to low. Cook for 10 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.
Add the apples. Cook for 5 minutes more or until the apples are tender.
Mash the vegetable mixture with a fork or potato masher. Serve immediately.
