Place tomatoes in food processor and pulse on-and-off to finely chop. Add onion, peppers, garlic, salt, and sugar. Pulse 2 to 3 times to blend and achieve desired consistency. Do not puree mixture, but leave small chunks of tomatoes and peppers visible.
Pour into a medium saucepan and place over medium heat. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Cool slightly and pour into 1/2-pint jars. Refrigerate up to 3 to 4 weeks.
