Serbian Bread ( Pogacha )

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups milk scalded
  • 1/2 cup butter cut up
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 med eggs
  • 2 packs dry yeast
  • 5-6 cups flour
  • 3 tbls brandy or whiskey

Cooking Instructions

add butter sugar an salt to scalded milk scalded meaning just under a boil.... stir to mix....... let cool...in yur kitchen aid or sunbeam mixer..beat eggs.... add yeast and cooled milk mixture and brandy.... using yur bread hook......add flour gradually to make a soft dough..... let rest 20 minutes.....turn out on floured cloth or counter....... knead until smooth..... place in greased bowl.......cover with damp cloth.....let rise until doubled..... bout an hour......punch down let rise same time again...turn out bread mixture......shape to fit a greased 13X9 inch cake pan.....brush with beatin egg..... prick with fork all over..... bake in 350 oven 1 hour.......at Christmas a coin is added....the person that gets the coin will have good luck all the next year...kinda like the King Cake for Mardi Gras.... so many cultures yet so many things the same......like burittos an moo shu..food travels all over..
