Spicy-Salsa Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 can (29 ounces) tomato purée
  • 11/2 cups salsa
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 3/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup corn syrup
  • 11/2 teaspoons salt
  • 11/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon each chili powder and cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)

Cooking Instructions

Bring all ingredients to a boil in a large, heavy saucepan. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered, stirring often, 30 minutes or until sauce has thickened. Cool; ladle into clean jars. Cover and refrigerate.

 

Store: Refrigerator, 1 month
