Melt butter in a medium saucepan. Add shallots; cover and cook over medium-low heat 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender.
Add tomatoes with juice, broth and tomato paste; bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes for flavors to blend.
Remove from heat; stir in dill.
