1. Saute the bacon in a heavy-bottomed pan until the fat is rendered. Remove the bacon from the pan and saute the onion in the fat for 5 minutes. Add the potatoes and the broth and simmer for 5 minutes.
2. Add the whitefish and cook until the potatoes are tender, about 15 minutes. Add the half-and-half and season with the salt and pepper. Simmer (do not boil) to heat through. Add the crumbled bacon just before serving.
